What Are Your Barriers to Entry

I recently talked with a startup with a neat product that they had developed, until I came to a realization that they were hoping to turn a small iteration on a historical product that … anybody… else could duplicate.

The popular quote from the movie Antitrust “Winston always said that any kid in a garage could put him out of business.” is still true and so this shouldn’t immediately kill your startup or technology project.

But, your company should have more progression than what’s easily contemplated and programmed into an interface by a startup weekend team in a couple of hours. Maybe your secret should be interfacing with other web services (like disqus, mailchimp, facebook, foursquare, gmail) but, as a company, you need to use a long term integration tactic that does this smartly and usefully.
